“Chain Reaction” An exceptional auction to benefit the British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel at Phillips de Pury & Company London.

London, January 25th 2008

British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel will be hosting their annual Auction at Phillips de Pury & Company on 26th February.

This year’s theme is Chain Reaction and curator Cathy Wills has put together an inspiring collection of contemporary works to benefit this event. Chain Reaction reflects how artists create their vision by involving or interacting with science. The artists show an interest in experimental processes, an awareness of digital media as well as an appreciation of light, space and movement. The title also suggests the development of the artists’ career within the art world – from fledgling student to stellar museum exhibitor.

Fifty four works will be auctioned on the night in aid of BFAMI - many having been generously donated by renowned galleries, international contemporary artists and private donors. Highlights of the sale will include works by Yinka Shonibare (Turner Prize Nominee 2004), Keith Tyson (Turner Prize Winner 2002), Zadok Ben David, Alex Katz, Ori Gersht, Marc Quinn (4th plinth commission, Trafalgar Sq. 2004), Martin Creed (Turner Prize Winner 2001), Conrad Shawcross and Anish Kapoor (Turner Prize Winner 1991) and the Korean artist Lee Ufan.

BFAMI supports the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv Museum and smaller Museums throughout the country. The money raised finances many unique educational projects within Israel and the Chain Reaction theme of the auction echoes how art can inspire, support and break down barriers between people of all ages and beliefs.

Works for auction will be exhibited at Phillips de Pury, 9 Howick Place, London SW1 from Thursday 21st February until Tuesday 26th February.
