Joash Woodrow: A Retrospective Catalogue (2005)
Publisher: The Joash Woodrow Collection, 2005. Soft cover. This retrospective catalogue is dedicated to the painter Joash Woodrow (1927 – 2006) and coincided with the retrospective exhibition on this artist. The Leeds-based artist graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1953. Despite his talent, Woodrow’s work was unseen for almost 50 years, as the artist remained unknown to the public. The rediscovery of Woodrow’s life and work in 2001 attracted international attention, with his works bringing topics like culture, identity and environment into focus. The media attention on Woodrow also brought attention to other artists from the Jewish diaspora in Eastern Europe and provided further understanding of Jewish contributions to British post-war art. Included is an introduction by Nicholas Usherwood, who curated the exhibition.
